Commodore’s Corner

Friends and Fellow Members,

I would like to warmly welcome you to the 2023 season at Moriches Yacht Club. This year promises to be a great one with the continuation of all of our time-honored traditions and some new surprises thrown in for good measure. I encourage all of you to get involved and make new friends in the process as everything that happens at the club starts with a few volunteers and that “can do” attitude. I look forward to a season of wonderful events.

Our sailing program is alive and well and we are gearing up for record numbers this year. Our flagship 17′ Boston Whaler has been repowered and several members have stepped up to adopt the club’s boats, both power and sail, to get everything ready for summer. With a seasoned crop of returning instructors and all of our junior instructors getting US Sailing Level I certified, the club stands ready to make every day an adventure for the participants of our sailing program. We are also upgrading our morning program with the addition of a racing instructor and a 5-day lesson format. This promises to provide our younger sailors with a more engaging program and is sure to be a success. And, for those adults that always wanted to learn to sail or those
looking to continue advancing their knowledge of sailing, we will again be offering adult sailing lessons in the evenings. Lastly, our summer and fall racing program will continue to provide for spirited competition on the bay.

Our lifeguards and swimming instructors stand ready to teach our younger members about water safety while having the best summer ever just splashing in the pool and our children’s entertainment committee is already hosting fantastic events for the younger members.

I can’t say enough about the amazing volunteers that make up the Board of Governors. Being part of a team like this, success is the only option. This board continues to drive the club forward with the major improvements of a new roof
and windows for our clubhouse as well as keeping the property safe with investments like a new pool cover to replace the one that was no longer repairable. Our new and improved website provides better communication to the members and it’s as easy as ever to stay informed of club happenings. I would encourage everyone to please reach out to a board member if you are not getting the club emails or reminder text messages.

Again, I thank all for this opportunity and great honor to serve the members as your Commodore. I would like to thank my wife Nicole and my entire family who, together with an army of volunteers that is the Moriches Yacht Club, continue to come together keeping the tradition of sailing and enjoying life near the bay alive and well. I look forward to seeing you all down at the club to raise a glass, extend a welcoming hand or to just enjoy the view.
